This volume is a part of an integrated series of studies of Winchester’s archaeology which is largely concerned with work in the period 1972–86. Published here is a large collection of well-stratified pottery of Anglo-Saxon and later date from teh western, eastern and northern suburbs, and adjacent to the city defences. In general terms, the pottery studied in this volume is overwhelmingly of local origin, there being very few imports from any distance. This is therefore a significant conribution to undrstanding the technology and economics of an important industry supplying one of southern England's more important cities.
