Winchester's Roman & Medieval Defences

Hampshire Cultural Trust

Regular price £22.00

This volume is part of an integrated series of studies of Winchester’s archaeology, largely concerned with investigations by Winchester Museums Service (WMS) in the years 1971–86. The excavations described here were undertaken on and adjacent to the Roman town and medieval city defences. They produced evidence for their character and development from the time of the foundation, in c AD 70, of Roman Venta Belgarum, through the Anglo-Saxon and medieval periods to the 19th century. Also included (Chapter 6) is a gazetteer of other excavations and observations on the city defences.
